7 things to know about wine storage

1. The suitable temperature of the wine

High temperature is the natural enemy of wine. If the temperature is higher than 70°F, it will accelerate the aging of wine, and the best storage temperature for wine is 45°F -- 65°F (55°F is the perfect temperature. If you store your wine just a few degrees hotter, it's fine, as long as you drink it within three to five years of release.

2. Wine is too cold

If you plan to drink your wine in the next few months, it's best to keep your wine in the fridge at home. However, this method is not suitable for long-term storage of wine. Generally, the safe storage of corrosion-prone food in refrigerators is below 45°F. If the wine is stored in that environment for a long time, the cork will lack moisture, resulting in air pouring into the cork, which will damage the quality of the wine. Also, don't store the wine in an area where it can freeze easily. If the liquid freezes, it will increase in volume and the cork may be forced out by the pressure.

3. Temperature stability of wine

It is very important to maintain the stability of the wine temperature. If the liquid expands and contracts for a long time, it is easy to cause the cork to be flushed out by the pressure of the gas, or the liquid leakage occurs.

4. The right light for the wine

Light, especially sunlight, poses potential problems for long-term storage of wine. UV in the sun's rays can slow or prematurely ripen a wine in a bottle, and some winemakers are using tinted glass bottles as if they were sunglasses for the wine. The lights we use in our homes may not do much harm to our wines, but in the long run, they may make your labels fade. At the same time, we should also know that incandescent lamps are safer than fluorescent lamps, which emit a little ultraviolet light.

5. The humidity of the wine

The ideal humidity for wine storage is 70%. If it is too dry, the cork will lack moisture, causing air to flow in and damage the wine. Therefore, it is safest to keep the humidity level between 50% and 80%. You can keep the humidity level in the environment by placing a bowl of water where the wine is stored. At the same time the humidity should also be balanced, if it is too wet, it is easy to cause mildew cork.

6. Placement of wine

Generally speaking, when we store wine, we want to tilt the wine. This will keep the cork moist and prevent the gas from getting in. However, if you're planning to taste the wine in the near future, there's no need to tilt it, and you can just leave it on the shelf without damaging your wine.

7. Requirements for vibration of wine

We all know that long period of vibration is easy to accelerate the chemical reaction of the liquid, damage wine. So some collectors are wondering if the slight vibration of appliances might have an effect on wine. We don't have any concrete confirmation of that. However, when we store wine, we should try to choose places with less vibration.
